Phone counselling rates are less than face to face counselling and can be
a useful service to those in the local area wanting the convenience and
value compared with in-office or in-home counselling. It can also be a
great resource for people outside the area who would like to receive
individual counselling, either for single session therapy, or for ongoing
counselling. I can ring people who live outside of Melbourne, including
many countries, to save them the costs of long distance charges.
All issues that are normally worked on in face to face counselling may be
worked on in phone counselling, such as anxiety, depression, parenting
challenges, and relationship difficulties. Family conflict is often helped
with one family member, and I can offer to work with more than one
family member through phone counselling, it simply would not be at the
same time. Email can be used in addition to phone counselling to
communicate further in terms of reinforcing important information in
written form.
Of course there are limitations to the work compared with face to face
counselling, such as being unable to provide traditional Family Therapy,
with more than one family member in the same session. While there are
certain therapeutic techniques, such as EMDR, art therapy, and play
therapy, that can not be done over the phone, I can adapt them or utilise
certain aspects, when possible.
Some people may want to continue the work they started in one of my
therapeutic workshops, but live outside the local area. Phone counselling
is a good way to access my expertise on issues relating to separation and
divorce if you are unable to attend a workshop.

of therapeutic interventions, strategies, and techniques.

- Comfortable with the therapeutic work
- Informed about the purpose of various therapeutic interventions and
given the choice as to whether they wish to use them
- Encouraged to give honest feedback about the work (I believe that
such feedback helps to make sure I am 'on the right track' and that the
work is indeed helping)
- Given important information about the issues they face, in the form
of handouts, literature, mapping of patterns, reference to services,
books/websites, etc.
